MACHINE SHOP SERVICES
Prices listed are for Labor Only and assume components to be modified are in working, serviceable condition. Previously modified components may require additional labor at additional cost, or in some cases may not qualify for a Zipper’s-engineered service or kit. If there is any question concerning your parts and this policy please call before shipping your parts. Prices listed do not include return shipping charges.
To protect the integrity of the work we perform and the price structure of our kits, we cannot use parts that we do not, or did not, supply in any machine shop job we perform. Unless you have Zipper’s products or parts that were previously purchased from Zipper’s, do not send parts with your job to Zipper’s.
Most components require some important cleaning and/or preparation steps before work can be performed. Because improper cleaning methods can actually do more harm than good, we suggest you allow us to properly prepare your parts for modification. Extreme care is taken during our preparation process to preserve component finishes. Reasonable additional charges do apply for these services. Engine and transmission components should be washed free of oil and wrapped in heavy newspaper before being put in protective cartons. A standard charge is billed to each work order to cover shop costs for chemical disposal and other materials used during the processing of a job.
HOW TO ORDER AND SHIP FOR MACHINE SHOP SERVICES
Sometimes we receive boxes from our customers that contain parts and major components without any note of instruction on what is asked of us, sometimes without even a return address or a phone number! Unfortunately, we have to just sit on the parts until somebody starts wondering why it’s taking so long for us to get back with them. So, before you ship something to us for Machine Shop Services, please read the following instructions.
Download the “Zipper’s Job Order Sheet” from our site, or request a PDF from us. Be sure to fill it out entirely, or enclose a note with the following:
Year, make, model, engine size, mileage and current modifications, if any. It gives us somewhere to start if we have questions.
Explain the nature of the work you want performed.
Include a cell phone number, daytime and evening phone numbers with fax or e-mail if available.
If we have questions or need more information, or just want to let you know we’re ready to ship your parts back, these numbers come in really handy.
Package parts carefully. Items such as heads and cylinders should be first washed clean of oil and individually wrapped in heavy newspaper (a whole section per part works well), then placed in individual boxes or at the very least separated by strips of heavy cardboard and more newspaper padding. Remember your box is going to be thrown around during shipping a lot and could be damaged beyond use if not packaged properly. Heavy cardboard boxes and cardboard barriers between the parts to protect them are essential (UPS requires at least 2” of padding around packaged components). Neither the Freight Company nor Zipper’s Performance can take responsibility for poorly packaged parts. Don’t use bubble wrap on top end parts! A top end wrapped in bubble wrap will get to us sounding like a big, heavy baby rattle, with all the bubbles popped long before the boxes reach us. At any rate, always insure your parts for replacement value, but remember, even if your parts are insured, you may not be reimbursed for damages if they are not properly packaged.
Allow for shipping and receiving time. We receive calls checking the progress of jobs we have not even received yet. Ask your shipper how long it will take to get your parts to Maryland. We strive for fast service and quick turn-around, however, in season our workload, like everyone else’s, gets heavy. Call for current shop time; please be aware that this can change with our daily influx of work. If you’re in a jam and just can’t wait, consider an outright purchase or exchange (available on many services we offer). We want to make sure you get quality work on your job, in a reasonable time, so please plan ahead. Call checking progress may take up to 24 hours to return. We’ll do our best to give you great service.
